Dura appena due minuti il pareggio dei padroni di casa. Al 9’ infatti Nedved lancia Trezeguet che con un gran destro mette in rete e riporta in vantaggio la squadra di Capello (1-2). Al 14’ doppio cambio: Mazzone toglie un difensore, Vargas, e manda in campo, un attaccante, Bakayoko. Capello sostituisce Camoranesi con Mutu. Dopo cinque minuti tocca a Ibrahimovic, al posto dell’autore della doppietta Trezeguet.
Il Livorno prova a recuperare lo svantaggio, ma la Juventus tiene sempre in mano il gioco. Pericolosi i padroni di casa al 21’, quando il colpo di testa sotto porta di Lucarelli termina a lato. Mazzone fa uscire Argilli a favore di Cesar Prates e poi aggiunge una punta, Palladino, al posto dell’autore del gol Pfertzel. Al 35’
Juventus in avanti: su angolo di Mutu, il colpo di testa di Nedved finisce a lato. Al 40’, bel lancio di Thuram per Ibrahimovic che si libera bene di Galante e mette in mezzo, ma Del Piero non ci arriva di un soffio. Terzo cambio anche per Capello che sostituisce l’acciaccato Zebina con Pessotto.
Nel finale Ibrahimovic ci prova dalla distanza, ma manda alto, stesa sorte per una conclusione dalla sinistra di Del Piero. Il capitano chiude in bellezza e, nel quarto minuto di recupero, con un gran sinistro segna il gol del definitivo 3-1.
